Facility Descriptions

Monticello High School: Located in Monticello. This facility houses the gym component of the Sullivan County YMCA and many of our adult and youth programs.

 

The Lodge: Located in Rock Hill. This facility houses the pool component of the Sullivan County YMCA. This is where our both out adult and youth aquatics programs take place.

 

Nana’s House: Also located in Rock Hill. This facility houses the day care component of the Sullivan County YMCA. This is where our members can take advantage of day care and pre-school.

 

The Town of Thompson Camp: Located in Monticello. This facility houses the camp component of the Sullivan County YMCA. This is where families can send their children to take advantage of our summer camp activities

Swimming Lessons (Held at the Lodge in Rock Hill)

 

Swimming Lessons

In the pre-school aquatics program, children develop fundamental swimming skills that build the foundation for swimming to become a lifelong activity. Flotation devices and other instructional equipment may be used throughout all classes to assist swimmers in becoming comfortable and confident, to help them maintain proper body position, and to build their endurance. Games and other activities are implemented to encourage swimmers to have fun while learning. Classes are 30 minutes long. We also offer progressive classes for older children that teach swimming technique beyond the basics up to age 12.

In the pre-school aquatics program, children develop fundamental swimming skills that build the foundation for swimming to become a lifelong activity. Games and other activities are implemented to encourage swimmers to have fun while learning. Classes are 30 minutes long.

Through a progression of swimming levels, participants develop the skills they need to become safe, strong, and proficient swimmers. Flotation devices and other instructional equipment may be used throughout all classes to assist swimmers in becoming comfortable and confident, to help them maintain proper body position, and to build their endurance. Games and other activities are implemented to encourage swimmers to have fun while learning. Classes are 45 minutes long.

Modern Dance

Modern Dance class is inspired by the study of Martha Graham's contemporary dance technique.  Children will learn movement through imagination and discipline.

Preschool Dance

This program focuses on gross motor skill development, song and dance moves Ballet technique, Jazz, and more.  This class gives children the chance to make friends, have fun and provides a positive learning atmosphere.

Price is based on a 15 week session and a recital for families and friends.

 

Youth Cheer!

This class will focus on learning he basics of cheerleading.  the children will learn tumbling, cheers and choreography, which will be practiced and then performed at the Sullivan YMCA Adult League games.  Pom-Poms will be provided!

Intro to Dance 

This program focuses progression fine motor skill development including both Ballet and Jazz technique, dance positions, centre and barre work and choreography.  A basic curriculum is implemented through class structure and technique.  Students may discover the joys of dance while making new friends and progressing their skills.

Jazz / Hip Hop Dance

Basic Jazz and Hip Hop technique will be introduced through isolations, progressions, centre work and choreography.  In this upbeat class, students will learn basic combinations within the techniques and variations of both Jazz and Hip-Hop.

This program focuses on a variety of sports and fitness activities with a strong emphasis on social participation and skills building.  Activities include Tee-ball, Floor Hockey, Soccer, Basketball, Pee Wee Flag Football and much more.

Karate/Judo Ages 5-13 years old


The emphasis is on discipline and leadership for children. It entails the use of punches and kicking and proper body movement, encouraging the child toward total body control and coordination. Strong evidence supports that a well structured Karate program may help evelop stronger self confidence and self esteem and even assist children with ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder) or ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyper Disorder) to become more focused in their everyday activities.

                              Youth and Teen Co-ed Basketball Ages 8-17 years old

 

This program teaches children the fundamental skills to participate in a successful game of basketball. Children will learn passing, shooting, rebounding, foul shooting, and offensive and defensive play. This league is designed to help increase skill level.  (4 week clinic plus 8 weeks of games.)

ADULT SPORTS LEAGUE

 

Adult Volleyball

Adult Volleyball is a Rally league that plays 10 consecutive weeks.  There is 8 games in addition to a playoffs, and the final championship.  Each game consists of 3 matches.    Matches are played up to 25 points.  This is a great league to come with friends and have a great time playing both competitive and non competitive volleyball.

People may register individually or as a team rate.  The YMCA encourages businesses as well as companies/organizations to become involved with their work staff.

Adult-Teen Indoor Soccer

A night of co-ed pick up soccer for teens and adults held indoors.

ADULT PROGRAMS

Thunder 102 Line Dancing Class

This is a fun class people to come together to learn the basic moves of line dancing and choreography. Thunder 102 now officially sponsors this YMCA class so come learn the steps while listening to some great country music.

Aqua Fitness (Rock Hill Lodge Pool)

This is a 45-minute aerobic and strength training workout in the pool at the Rock Hill Lodge. Exercise in the water has been proven to be an effective workout for people of all fitness abilities, but is especially good for those with injuries or ailments, such as arthritis and other chronic pain. This class is both challenging and relaxing.

Mat Pilates 

Mat Pilates is a great way to inprove core strenght and flexibility with mat work.  This program puts a strong emphasis on improving abdomen and back muscles.  Mat Pilates also improes breathing, circulation as well as better posture.

Faux Fencing

A 45 minute cardio workout that combines fencing with footwork similar to kick boxing.   You will learn basic fencing moves with 'fighting sticks' together as a group and then break off into pairs to practice those moves.

Adult Group Fitness Classes FREE with Membership

Calorie Burn Group Indoor Cycling Beginner/Intermediate

This is an amazing aerobic workout that uses the principle of interval training on specially designed stationary bikes. The instructor will lead the class through a 50 minute "cycling journey" of flat runs, mild & steep hills, in both seated and standing positions. Beginners should come a few minutes early to get help from the instructor in setting up their bikes at the proper adjustment levels.

Cardo-Kick Strength Training:  This a 60 minute, high energy kickboxing workout and muscle conditioning designed to get the eartpumping and muscles burning.  Please bring non-marking sneakers and comfortable clothing.

Full Body Toning:

This is a 45 minute total body strength training workout, using hand weights, resistance bands and calisthenics. Participants choose weights appropriate for their own levels. The instructor will cover all the major muscle groups: chest, back, shoulders, biceps, triceps, quads, glutes, hamstrings, calves, and abdominals. The class will stretch all muscles worked to re-lengthen them before they cool down.

Guts-N-Butts:

This is a 45 minute class that slims, increases muscle tone and flexibility in the legs, bottom, ower back and stomach.  Through dynamic moves using just your body weight, you will spend the first half of the class working on the lower body and the second half of the class you come down to the matt and work the core.  This class infuses moves from sports training, Yoga and Pilates to create a challenging and fun workout.  This class is performed bare foot; you may bring your own mat (mats are also provided.)  Please wear comfortable clothing.
