Construction continues to progress a the

'South Orange Family Y' (SOFY) in Monroe.

Progress has begun at 45 Gilbert Street in the Village of Monroe preparing the construction site for the South Orange Family YMCA. The facility will have approximately 22,000 sq. ft. of facility space focusing on programs for the entire family. Anticipated opening in mid 2010.

The facility will have:

- A gymnasium

-Four different multipurpose rooms for group exercise, yoga, cycling, CPR, first aid

programs and community rooms

-State of the art youth center

-Child watch room

-Family locker rooms

It is located next to the Heritage Trail so families seeking to participate in both areas will find this extremely convenient.

The YMCA will begin selling memberships for the new facility in the New Year.

"We are seeking to create a community center of relevance for our families." advised Randy Grant, CEO of the YMCA, "It is a destination for families in neighboring communities to come together to improve the quality of life they enjoy in South Orange County. Members in Monroe can obtain a membership that is accepted in all three YMCA locations - Middletown, Sullivan County and Monroe. This will also allow access to the National YMCA AWAY program giving free access when traveling on business or vacationing up to two weeks at over 2600 YMCA's across America."

Community members seeking financial assistance can gain access through the OPEN DOOR program with funds raised annually in the Strong Kids Campaign.
